check the map!

At the beginning of December the CVQ was invited to travel to Uganda by the Alliance Française and the German Embassy in Kampala. The trip was sponsored by the “Ugandan German Cultural Society” in Kampala and the Belgian Airline SN. Thank you very much!
The week started with a workshop with Ugandan High School Students and students of the International School Kampala in the National Theatre.
Then the band met some Ugandan Musicians for a “rencontre musical” where they all played together the quartet’s music as well as some pieces written by their Ugandan colleagues. This was a great experience for all of them.
A concert in front of an audience of 600 people was the highlight of the trip to Uganda. The band played in a breathtaking African scenery together with the Ugandan “Baximba Waves” as their curtain raisers. When the Ugandan musicians returned on stage in order to play the last three pieces with the CVQ, the audience entered the stage, applauding and dancing.
After the concert the band went on safari for two days in the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Due to the extraordenary artistical and technical quality of the material the CVQ and Double-Moon (the lable) decided to release this dokument as DVD.

“
Cécile Verny awarded twice in newcomer competition” (Apr 03)
Cécile Verny has been hailed as one of the great European jazz divas for quite a long time. Now she is really entering the spotlight after receiving two awards in the newcomer competition of “Jazz à Juan”, Antibes. The international festival in southern France is a summit of today’s jazz scene with one newcomer artist joining the stars on the central stage in Juan-les-Pins. Cécile Verny and her quartet, who were awarded best group of the category “vocal jazz” and were awarded the jury’s “Grand Prize”, will perform in a double concert with jazz legend Herbie Hancock on July 16th.
For many years, Cécile and the band have been working on a repertoire of originals and a few select jazz standards, creating a unique style and a strong musical identity. As a consequence of this work and an endless number of concerts in countries around the world, Cécile Verny (vocals), Andreas Erchinger (piano), Bernd Heitzler (bass) and Torsten Krill (drums) now seem to be making their breakthrough on the international jazz scene.

“Something got lost on the way” (March 02)
Those of you who have been reading exactly might have found out that the quartet lost something ….. we lost the second (so to say the third;.) “t ” in quartett and since Kekeli (2002) it is the Cécile Verny Quartet instead of the former Cécile Verny Quartett.
Why???
We and our record company found out that people that speak English and French are always iconfused about the second “t ” which is only used in German.
Originaly we used the German form of quartet(t) because we also wanted to point out the undeniable German part (2/3rd) of the band. Now we followed a more overall and international spirit. Thats it!
